What Do You Think of This Dialogue?
Apologies If I Gave You a Headache
Imagine the following conversation between two people.
“Are you thinking what I’m thinking your thinking?”
“I don’t know, what do you think I am thinking?”
“I didn’t ask what you did or did not know. I think you are thinking what I thought you were thinking.”
“Uh, what did you say?”
“Why are you going off topic again. I think that you don’t think that I think you are thinking what I think you’re thinking, otherwise you would not be circumventing my question about your thinking about what I think you are thinking.”
“I really don’t understand what you are saying at all.”
“Before we get to understanding, please offer what you are thinking. I think the case is true that you are thinking what I am thinking you are thinking.”
“I’m actually not thinking anything now. This conversation is making it hard for me to think at all”
“So you are NOT thinking what I think you are thinking.”
Sometimes our written and oral communications really do not get very far.
