Some Wonderful Movie Quotes To Make Your Day
Classic and Epic Films Say It Best
Looking for wisdom to motivate and move you in your daily life? Sure, you have books, poetry, spiritual texts, philosophical insights, and social media memes. But why not also revisit amazing lines from classic and epics films? Here are a few of the best movie quotes I have found to help inspire you today.
Here is a corny yet profound quote from the comedy film Naked Gun with Leslie Nielsen:
“It’s a topsy-turvy world, and maybe the problems of two people don’t amount to a hill of beans. But this is our hill. And these are our beans!”
Ok, yes, this is corny and “slap-on-head” kind of humor. But it ends up being a moving romantic scene with these words taking on an ironic profundity. Isn’t that what couples in love try to do, is try to build a life of love even though it doesn’t seem to amount to much in the grand scheme of things?
When you think about it, this quote is so profound too when considering one’s personal perspective or ideology in relation to the world out there. You can hold value over the “hill of beans” of your opinions, positions, beliefs, and insights while also realizing there are millions of other equally valuable “hills of beans” out there for you to at least consider. By remembering your angle misses the vast majority of things, you can always also be expanding your hill by interacting with the others. Ok, I’ve blown this a little out of proportion!
Here are a couple of lines from the 1995 film Mr. Holland’s Opus.
Very simple, yet profound line.
A disgruntled young music teacher gets an insecure senior student to overcome her fears and give the best of herself. This allows the student character Gertrude Lang to play the clarinet beautifully and inspires her to go on to believe in herself and accomplish great things in her life.
Thirty years later, when Mr. Holland is forced to retire, the Honorable Gertude Lang, now state Governer, comes back to remind Mr. Holland how amazing his work has been over thirty years.
“Look around you. There is not a life in this room that you have not touched. Each one of us is a better person because of you. We are your symphony, Mr. Holland. We are the melodies and the notes of your opus. And we are the music of your life.”
How many people — teachers, parents, relatives, counselors, and so on — can each of us point to as having been an amazing rock in our lives? Isn’t it one of the greatest strides of each of us to make a lasting difference in someone else’s life? How often there are people like Mr. Holland who we never get to thank for the impact they had in our lives?
Ok, continuing with the tears. I went to see The Fault in Our Stars in 2014 with my wife and cried throughout. Few scenes can come close to the amazing ones in the film like this:
The main character Gus professes his love for Hazel in, oh my, such awesome words:
I am in love with you! And I know that love is just a shout into the void and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we’re all doomed. And that, one day, all of our labors will be returned to dust. And I know that the sun will swallow the only Earth that we ever have. And I am in love with you.
Now, so much could be said about Titanic (1997). It’s an epic film, with golden moments, hand-slapping moments, and just awe-inspiring moments. But one of my favorite lines from the film is rather simple yet profound one from the elderly Rose:
So many profound meanings. Remember she was holding on to the epic multi-million dollar diamond necklace the whole time. How much more priceless was her life’s legacy, truly living history?
What are some of your favorite inspirational movie quotes? Certainly, there are countless films and quotes to choose from. What an amazing world from which to help find deeper gems to move the mind and spirit? And they say too much streaming or television turns you into a potato!
