I was also transfixed by the word queue that I didn't really seem to discover until 30s(even as a reader, writer, and English major in college). It was not until I worked in a call center and I heard the phrase "calls are waiting in queue" and with an automated work database system that allows you to "have items in your queue." It is funny how such a word has such a practical application beyond Scrabble in this age where smart phones or Google lead us to the misconeception there should not be a queue for anything.
