Happy “10–4” Day!!

In radio code, “10–4” acknowledges a message clearly received.

“OK.” “Message received.” “I confirm that.”

Riding the big yellow school bus from our rural farm home several miles to school in our local small Iowa town, this was a common phrase my bus drivers would use when talking to the central bus location.

“So-and-so’s kids aren’t riding the bus today.”

“10–4.”

Such phrases are similar in other professions. Police officers, to name one example, often may use the phrase when signaling confirmation of orders or important updates.

“Attention officers! The donut shop on Main Street is closed today for staff training.”

“10–4.”

Sorry, just kidding. Full gratitude is owed to our police officers and other public servants who sacrifice so much for our safety.

But anyhow, the date brought me back to that well-established phrase I used to hear so many times on the way to school. As this day started, I wondered if there should be an official “Ten-Four Day” holiday to commemorate the phrase, radio users, and positive affirmations. Guess what, it is already an internationally recognized special day.

Happy 10–4 Day all! Today, maybe we should take a moment to say a prayer for those who give of themselves in roles with those technologies at the bedrock of our modern world(and are still ever-evolving). Let’s remember those bus drivers, educators, and other professionals who serve the youth. Let us honor those police officers, firefighters, medical workers, and countless others who work to keep us healthy and safe. Let us remember we are forever indebted to those military personnel who serve to protect our freedoms. May we always offer love and prayers for those dearly beloved who went before and certainly still send us positive energy and guidance in ways no transmitting device can detect. May we also pray to keep our lives fully in balance with the sacred music of the Cosmos that vibrates through everything.

And this calls to mind how our own lives are part or parcel of that larger Divine dance. Perhaps we can take a little time today to ponder whether our own prayer to what is sacred at the heart of things is one of “10–4.”

“I confirm the unlimited blessings and riches received today.”

“I hear loud and clear the calling I have received and will strive to carry it out today.”

“I offer utmost gratitude.”

Happy “10–4” Day to everyone! Best and brightest to you!
