Additional Medium Features Prove Simple and Intuitive Behind the Scenes

In addition, I will add a few notes about some of the behind-the-scenes features. These include the statistics and drafts features. Although these features are common on mulitple writing platforms, Medium builds both to be easily accessible, intuitive, and wide in scope.

Medium Stats

Medium stats allow writers to track not only the number of views, but also by the number of users who take the time to read your story and also clap as “fans.” It is nice to know that even if you just post stories out there for the fun of it that you can see the impact your story makes. A snapshot of some of my recent stories shows that although my newer stories have not yet gotten wider views, my words still made their way to the minds of at least a handful of readers.

The stats also show external and internal views — a real wonderful tool for helping determine how people access your works. If you are getting internal views, it offers great insights if you are alluring a wide array of readers or if you have an established following. If you are getting external views, yay for your words reaching people on the world wide web! Now, my stats are not turned on for the Medium Partner Program, but partners can easily see how much money each of their stories is earning as well as these other indicators of impact.

Drafts

Is the drafts features not just simply wonderful?

How upsetting it is when you have been working on a piece, and all of the work disappears! You lose the paper notebook you’ve been recording words, or your hard drive crashes. So much of your heart and soul seems to vaporize. But how wonderful that Medium allows your drafts to be saved on its cloud server. You can pour your heart out into a short story you want to publish or begin recording your views on a major topic and then leave it to revisit later without the worry of having to save it on your hard drive in some particular folder. And the intuitive “draft” format also allows for writers to go back and rework already published pieces. An extra advantage in this digital-cyber age where things are so often fluid, live, and dynamic!

Whether or not readers and writers use Medium to earn money or are even subscribers, the platform is unmatched in so many of its benefits and wonders it offers. Publications or submissions by topic allow works to reach a wide audience, while networking, feedback, and sharing allow writers to establish a strong following.
